When steel has to come off underwater, we burn it. Exothermic cutting slices through plate, pipe, chain, cable, and structural steel in the water, so damaged, fouled, or obsolete metal can be removed without a haul-out or a crane lifting the whole piece.

Our divers cut to a plan, dropping debris and wreckage clear, freeing seized or damaged fittings, opening access for repair, and trimming steel down to a size that can be recovered. Poor visibility and current are normal for this work, and the topside crew stays in constant contact throughout the cut.

Underwater burning pairs naturally with salvage, emergency response, and structural repair. Tell us what has to come off and where it is, and we will scope the cut, the rigging, and the recovery.

How it works

Our process

Simple, careful, and clear from start to finish.

  1. 01

    Scope the cut

We review what needs to come off, the access, and the recovery plan, and confirm the rigging.

  2. 02

    Set up and rig

The dive spread and cutting gear are set, and any load or debris is rigged before the cut.

  3. 03

    Burn and clear

The diver cuts to the plan while topside manages communications, and the steel is dropped or recovered clear.

  4. 04

    Confirm and report

We confirm the cut is complete and clear, and report the result with any follow-up work needed.

Questions

Underwater Burning FAQs

What can you cut underwater?
Exothermic cutting handles plate, pipe, chain, cable, and structural steel. Tell us the material and thickness and we will confirm the approach.
Do you need to haul the structure out?
No. Underwater burning is done in place, so damaged or obsolete steel can be removed without a haul-out or lifting the whole piece.
Can you handle salvage and emergency cuts?
Yes. Cutting away wreckage and freeing fouled or damaged structure is common emergency and salvage work, and crews are on call around the clock.

Need underwater burning?
